Potato and Peas Masala

Aloo mutter is such a wonderful combination! Potato and peas needs no introduction, you can never go wrong here, it tastes awesome too and loved by all. It is the simplest dish that you can make! My family loves this and we make this quite often.

Potato and Peas Masala

Preparation time 10 mins | Cooking time 15 mins | Serves 2


  • Potato - 3 medium
  • Peas - 2/3 cup
  • Onion - 1 large
  • Tomato - 1 large
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp, chopped
  • Water - 1/2 cup
To Temper
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Potato and Peas Masala

1. Pressure cook the potatoes and peas with little water for 3 whistles.
2. In a kadai, add oil, mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves. After the mustard seeds splutters, add onion and saute with some salt. 

2. When the onions are translucent, add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell leaves. Add tomatoes, close the lid and let it cook for 3 - 5 minutes.
3. Once the tomatoes are cooked, add the masalas. Turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder.

4. Add the potatoes and peas. Mix with the masala. Add 1/2 cup of water and mix in.
5. Add salt. Cook till the curry reaches the consistency you prefer.

6. Add coriander leaves and switch off.

1. If you don't want to pressure cook the potatoes and peas, add it directly to the pan, add 1 cup of water, close the lid and cook until the peas and potatoes are cooked.
