2 Ingredient Nutella Mug Cake

This is not an instant cake! If you came by thinking this is an instant cake then I suggest you check out the 4 ingredient Nutella Mug Cake. That one can be eaten immediately or try this instant brownie.

Nutella Mug Cake

This 2 ingredient nutella cake is so easy and simple to put together but there is a catch, since it uses only egg and nutella, it tastes very 'eggy' if you eat it immediately. The author says to leave this cake aside for 2-3 hours then the cake flavors get enriched and the cake tastes so so good! So rich, dense and delicious!

What I do is, I plan ahead and I make this cake very early in the morning and set aside and it's perfectly ready for my kids or my husband!

Ingredients
  • Nutella - 4 tbsp
  • Egg - 1
Nutella Mug Cake

Method
1. In a tall microwave safe mug (check notes), add the egg and nutella and whisk well.

2. If your using a spoon or hand whisk, make sure the egg is incorporated fully. I used my electric hand beater. Beat for a minute until the egg and nutella is well blended.

The last image was taken after resting the cake for 3 hours

3. Microwave on high for a minute. Remove and check, if it's not done, microwave for 10 more seconds.

Notes
1. Use a really tall mug or bowl as the cake rises insanely high! I used a large nescafe mug, the batter came only to half the mug but while cooking the batter rose so high, I was worried it was going to spill over and spoil my microwave (a bit did) so use a large mug or bowl.
2. Once done the cake subsides to half the mug again and after 2-3 hours, pulls away from the mug. Then you can easily remove from the mug. I removed it from the mug (after 3 hours) and put it in a ramekin for the pictures.
3. The cake does taste eggy if you eat immediately (I tried!!) so do be patient and wait for 2-3 hours.
4. Do not over cook, microwave cakes become hard and rubbery if you over cook. My microwave is 900 watts.
