Varagu Arisi Moong Dal Khichidi

My periamma taught me to make moong dal khichidi with rice and I thought it would be a great idea to make the same with millets. I gave it a try and it came out very well. Now I make this quite often at home. Whenever I feel lazy to cook, then I make this with a simple side dish and it works very well!

Millet moong dal khichidi

We just love this khichidi, the taste is so heavenly and yet so simple! I do not like to add more masala to this dish other than the turmeric powder, as I feel it takes away from the 'delishiousness' of this dish so I use only turmeric powder and add more green chillies for the spice. You can add some red chilli powder or even garam masala to it.

Millets are considered to be a super food! They are so much more healthy and nutritious than rice and so we try to include it atleast 3 meals in a week. I made this with Varagu Arisi (kodo millet), you can do the same with kuthiraivali, thinai or samai also.

Varagu Arisi Bisibellabath | Millet Recipes

One of my favorite one pot meals is bisibellabath. It's so simple to make and such a delicious rice. Bisibellabath is the fancy cousin of sambar rice. Since we have been including millets in our diet, I thought of trying out this bisibellabath with millets and it turned out to be delicious and a very healthy option too. This has become a regular fixture in our house and I make this bisibellabath with all the millets.

Varagu arisi is called as Kodo Millet in English. Some people add tomatoes to bisibellabath and some don't. I have not used, you can add some tomatoes if you wish.

Varagu Arisi Thayir Sadam | Kodo Millet Curd Rice | Millet Recipes

Varagu Arisi also called as Kodo Millet in English is a very healthy alternative to white rice. Millets which were forgotten is now finding it's way back into many homes. We include millets atleast 3 times a week.

Kodo millet curd rice tastes very delicious just as any other curd rice and it's all the better since this is much more healthy. If your kids won't eat millets, you can try to make it as curd rice and they wont know the difference!
