Mango Nungu Milkshake

Ever since I made the mango nungu pudding, my husband has been asking me to make it over and over again, we loved the combination of mango and nungu! After getting bored of making that dish, I was thinking of how else to pair mango and nungu and tried out this  milkshake and this was another huge hit is my house!

Nungu is called as Ice Apple in English. This fruit is seen only during Summer, mostly in the Sub Continent. It's a lovely fruit from palm trees, with loads of health benefits.

Baby Corn Kurma

Baby Corn is something that I tried only recently and my husband and me loved it! I tried a simple baby corn masala and it paired very well with roti. So this time while we were grocery shopping, I picked up a fresh pack of baby corn and tried this kurma and I have to say this baby corn kurma was even more tasty than the baby corn masala! Very rarely I see my husband licking his hand or plate (he's quite disciplined and never does it!) but this time I was beaming with happiness to see him enjoy the dish so much!

Mango Kesari

Kesari is an Indian sweet dish made with semolina or vermicelli. This simple and easy dish is loved by many. My mum loves this kesari and I make this rava kesari or semiya kesari for her. This time with the abundance of mangoes in our house, I wanted to make mango kesari and this came out so delicious, we loved it!

Mango Kesari

I got this method of making kesari from Mrs. Chithra Vishwanathan. For the original recipe please click here
After trying this kesari, I now make all my kesari's following this same method, although I have changed the recipe and proportions to suit my mum's preference. There is another easier way to make kesari and that is called OPOS kesari, pioneered by Mr. Rama Krishnan, for that recipe, click here. This is an easy, simple, no fuss, no lumps, no stirring for long, no wastage of gas, fuss free kesari!

Check out the other Mango Recipes. And the pineapple kesari and semiya kesari recipes.

Kuthiraivali Tomato Rice

Millets have become a part of our lives now, I try to include all kinds of millets atleast three times a week and we have started giving it to our kids too and surprisingly they have not complained! What I love about these millets are, they are loaded with health and the taste is only slightly different from what our rice eating palates are used to! So we love this new inclusion in our diet!
On this particular day I was looking to make something different from the usual upma and khichidi and pongal I make with millets and I ventured to make some tomato rice with kuthiraivali also known as Barnyard millet in English. This was so tasty, my husband praised the dish (and me the cook ;) with each mouth full!

Thinai Sevai |Thinai Semiya Upma | Foxtail Millet Sevai

I found this thinai sevai in an organic store near my house and I bought a pack to try it out and it came out very well. I ave already tried out ragi sevai and we loved that too. So if you want a healthy and easy breakfast then pick up a pack!
Last time, when I made ragi sevai, I steam cooked the sevai and then added it to the pan but this time I added it directly to the pan and it turned out just fine. You can cook it either way.

Cheeni Avarakkai Vathal | Kothavarangai Vathal | Sun Dried Cluster Beans Recipe

My family is always busy sun drying vegetables and making vathals during summer. I have grown up watching my paternal grand mother making a lot of vathals during the summer and now my parents do the same. This is a common thing done is most South Indian homes.

The vegetable Cluster Beans called as Cheeni Avarakkai or Kothavarangai in Tamil is the most common vathal made in my home apart from vengaya vadam, sundakai vathal, kathrikai vathal. I will post the other vathal also later.

Cheeni Avarakkai Vathal

Cheeni Avarakkai, can me made as a poriyal or kuzhambu also. We simply love to eat this vathal with sambar/rasam rice or with kuzambu rice. Totally yum!! There are many ways to make this vathal, this is the method my parents follow and we love it!

Quadruple Chocolate Loaf

I was looking for a delicious celebration cake without any frosting, to carry it with me on our family road trip. I wanted a truly rich cake which would be fitting to celebrate since we were celebrating a couple's wedding anniversary. I zeroed in on this truly decadent cake from Nigella and it proved to be a wonderful choice. My family loved and it got over in no time!

This is raw, naked chocolate cake at it's best! So rich, soft, moist, utterly sinful! It's called as quadruple chocolate cake since there are four chocolate factors added to the cake and each one plays a part in making this an incredible cake.

Eggless Easy Mango Mousse

This recipe is undoubtedly the easiest mango dessert that you can find. Not only easy, it's also very good for kids and I'm sure they will love to have a bowl of this mousse as an evening snack or you can make this even for guests.

Eggless Mango Mousse

I'm not a big fan of adding setting agents like gelatin to my desserts especially if I'm making it just for my family and if I'm not planning on de moulding the dessert. If you wish to add a setting agent and you want to use as a filling or frosting for cakes then check out this egg free mango mousse cake. Also I have used only a low fat cream and not the usual non dairy creams which we get here. You can use a non dairy cream for better texture.
