Masala Oats Recipe

Masala oats is one of the most common dinner recipes I make for my husband and myself. Especially when I am stuck and not able to decide what to make for dinner or if my refrigerator is empty, this dish always comes to my rescue! My husband and me simply love this simple yet delightfully healthy dish. This definitely beats the packet masala oats that you get in the store! If I do have some veggies or have the time then I add it along too, check out my vegetable masala oats recipe.
You can have this with chutney or even curd. On a busy day we enjoy it as it is!

Masala Oats

Method
1. Dry roast the oats in a pan for 3 minutes and set aside.
2. In a pan, add the oil. Once the oil heats up, add the cumin seeds, curry leaves and slit green chillies.

3. hen the cumin seeds splutter, add the chopped onions. Add some salt and saute until the onions turn translucent.
4. Add the chopped ginger and garlic and saute for a couple of minutes.
5. Add the chopped tomatoes. Add some water and close the lid of the pan and cook the tomatoes for 3 minutes.

6. Once the tomatoes are cooked, add the garam masala, coriander powder, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.
7. Now add the 6 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Check for salt.
8. Add the roasted oats and mix well. Add more water if needed.

9. Cover and cook for 5 minutes until the oats is completely cooked. Adjust water depending on the consistency you prefer.
10. Add the chopped coriander leaves and switch off.

Masala Oats

Notes
1. This dish will get thick as time goes on so serve immediately. Or add water accordingly.
2. You can add ginger garlic paste instead of fresh ginger and garlic.
3. I add a little more water since my husband comes home late and by the time he gets home, the oats reaches the right consistency.

Until next time,
