Mushroom Oats Masala | Oats Recipes

This dish was made simply for the love of mushrooms! I normally make Masala Oats or vegetable oats masala for dinner and my husband and me love it. This time I wanted to make it with mushrooms alone and it was so yum and so healthy too!

Mushroom Oats Masala


MUSHROOM OATS MASALA
Preparation time 15 mins | Cooking time 20 mins | Serves 2

Ingredients
  • Button Mushrooms - 200 gms
  • Oats - 1.5 cups
  • Water - 3 cups (or as required)
  • Onions - 2 large, sliced
  • Tomato - 2 large, chopped
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
To Temper
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig

Method
1. Dry roast the oats for 3 minutes and set aside. Clean the mushrooms and chop as desired.
2. In a pan, heat oil. Once the oil heats up, add the cumin seeds and curry leaves.



3. When the cumin seeds splutter, add the sliced onions and green chilli. Add some salt and saute until the onions turn translucent.



4. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell of ginger and garlic leaves.
5. Add the chopped tomatoes. Cover and cook for 3 minutes until the tomatoes are well cooked.



6. Now add the garam masala, coriander powder, red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Mix well and cook for couple of minutes.
7. Add the chopped mushrooms and mix in. Cover and cook for about 5 -8 minutes until the mushrooms are well cooked, soft and tender. 



8. When the mushrooms are cooked, add water. When the water comes to a boil, add the roasted oats.
9. Cook the oats for 2 minutes. Check if more water is needed, if it's too thick, add little more water and cook until the oats is well cooked.



10. Check for salt, add more if needed. Add the chopped coriander leaves and switch off.

Notes
1. Oats tend to absorb water, adjust water as required.
2. I used quaker oats for this recipe.
