Idli Upma Recipe

Idli Upma is a simple and easy breakfast dish, usually made using left over idli's or idli that have turned out hard. It makes the boring idli interesting and desirable! I am not a fan of idli, only because I've had so much of it so any day I would prefer the idli upma over plain idli, whether it's made of fresh idli or left over hard idli's.

IDLI UPMA

  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig

  • Hing - a pinch
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
Method
1. Crumble the idlis roughly and set aside. Chop the onions and set aside.

2. In a pan, add oil. Add the mustard seeds. Once it splutters add the urad dal, channa dal, red chillies, hing and curry leaves.
3. Add the chopped onions and saute till the onions turn color. Make sure the onions remain slightly crunchy.

4. Add the turmeric powder and salt and mix well.

5. Add the crumbled idlis and mix well and serve.

Notes
1. You can add a tsp of idli podi to add more taste. I did not add this time.
2. If you eat eggs, then you can try this muttai idli upma for a change.

Until next time,
