Tirunelveli Mapillai Sodhi | திருநெல்வேலி சொதி குழம்பு | தேங்காய் பால் சொதி - In this post, we will see how to make a lipsmacking Sodhi Kuzhambu. This dish is called as Tirunelveli Mapillai Sodhi and goes well with appam and idiyappam. It is called as mapillai sodhi as it is a specialty item during wedding feasts in South India. In our family, we all love it and love to have it with plain rice itself.


Ingredients
  • Beans - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Carrot - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Peas - 1/2 cup
  • Potato - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Moong Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Garlic - 7
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Green chilli - 5
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Thick coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Thin Coconut milk - 1.5 cups
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - a handful
  • Salt - to taste
  • Coconut oil - 3 tbsp
  • Whole spices
  • Onion - 1

Method
1. Chop the veggies and soak the moong dal for 30 mins.
2. Transfer the dal in the pressure cooker, keep a vessel in the middle and add the veggies in it so both the dal and the veggies will be cooked simultaneously.
3. Add 2 cups water to cook the dal. Also add salt, turmeric powder and garlic.
4. Close the cooker and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Then open and mash the dal.
5. In the meantime, add 5 green chillies in a small mixie jar, also add the ginger and cumin seeds.
6. Add little water and blend to a smooth paste.
7. Next we need 2 coconut milk. Thick and thin coconut milk. Check this post on how to make coconut milk.
8. Heat coconut oil in a kadai. Add the whole spices, then add chopped garlic and chopped onion.
9. Saute till the onions are translucent. Add salt while the onions are cooking.
10. Add the green chilli paste and cook for 2 mins. Then add the cooked vegetables and dal.
11. Add little extra water and cook for 2 mins.
12. Now add thin coconut milk and mix well, cook for 5 mins in medium flame.
13. After 5 mins, add the thick coconut milk and cook for another 5 mins.
14. After 5 mins, switch off flame. After few mins of switching off the flame, add the lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.

Super tasty sodhi is ready.

Notes
1. You can serve this as a side dish for appam, idli, idiyappam. Or you can have this with white rice itself.
