Lemon Rasam | How to make Lemon Rasam | எலுமிச்சை ரசம் - In this post, we will see how to make tasty Lemon Rasam without using tamarind.


Ingredients
  • Pepper corns - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 2 tbsp
  • Garlic - 10 to 12
  • Ginger - small piece
  • Coriander leaves - handful
  • Tomato - 2
  • Red chillies - 2 + 1
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 2 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
  • Hing - pinch
  • Vendhayam (fenugreek seeds) - few
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Salt - to taste

Method
1. In a small mixee jar, add the pepper corns, cumin seeds, garlic, red chillies, ginger and coriander stalks. Grind to a coarse paste.
2. In a saucepan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, hing, curry leaves, fenugreek seeds, and red chilli. Saute for few seconds.
3. Add the ground mixture and saute for few mins.
4. Then add chopped tomatoes and salt. Cover and cook for 5 mins.
5. Then add turmeric powder and coriander powder and mix well.
6. Then add 4 cups of water or 1 litre of water.
7. Add 2 tbsp of lemon juice. If using fresh lemons, add the juice of 2 lemons.
8. Now let the rasam boil lightly, don't let it boil too much.
9. After it starts boiling switch off the flame and add chopped coriander leaves.

Notes
1. There is no tamarind in this recipe. The lemon juice gives a nice tangy flavor.
2. You can use rasam powder instead of turmeric powder and coriander powder.
