Methi Peas Pulao

Pulao's are light and aromatic rice dish made with fragrant basmati rice. My kids love to eat pulao and this is another combination I tried for their lunch box. Adding methi leaves can be tricky, sometimes it can turn your pulao extremely bitter which will not go well with kids. So make sure you cook the methi leaves well while making a methi pulao. You can also add some curd to cut out the bitterness. I have used tender methi leaves which were not so bitter and it tasted very well with the peas.

Chicken Pulao

Chicken pulao is flavorful, mild rice recipe that we love at home. Many people don't prefer to make a chicken pulao as the chicken biryani always takes precedence over any other chicken rice recipe in South India! But I always make a chicken pulao when the side dishes are heavily packed with mutton recipes. In those instances instead of a simple ghee rice, a chicken pulao makes the lunch light and tasty!

Carrot Pulao

Whenever I want to include carrot in my kids lunch box, I always make the quick carrot rice. However this carrot pulao is slightly different from that carrot rice recipe. This pulao is more flavorful and mild and rich! This is the kind of pulao that you can serve for your guests. Made with fragrant basmati rice, coconut milk and flavored with whole spices, this pulao tastes too good!

Mixed Vegetable Pulao

I have already posted one version of mixed veg pulao where I have used the microwave to partially cook the veggies and then used an electric rice cooker to cook the pulao. You can check that recipe here. This recipe is an easy one pot recipe that is pretty simple to put together.

Palak Soya Pulao

During school days it's really difficult for me to include greens in my children's diet since they don't like taking it to school so I make this palak pulao which tastes great and I have the satisfaction of including green leafy vegetables in their diet! Off late, I have started adding soya, lobia or paneer to the palak pulao I pack for them. Makes it more nutritious - iron and protein packed and they don't complain!

Coconut Milk Pulao

Coconut milk enhances the flavor of the pulao. I always add coconut milk to all my pulao recipes. I always prefer the taste of pulao with coconut milk than without it. This time I was making a small batch of pulao just for my kids and I decided to make a coconut milk pulao for them using only coconut milk. This made the pulao so rich and so tasty. You can use half water and half coconut milk too.

Peas Pulao

Peas pulao is a tasty and well loved Indian dish that I make quite often at home. In fact, I make a lot of pulao at home and the most common is this peas pulao. I have already posted 2 other version of peas pulao that we make at home and this is the simplest version of my peas pulao.

Soya Pulao

Pulao is one of the few dishes that my fussy kids like to eat! So, I make a pulao once every week for lunch box. I make it a different pulao every week to keep it interesting. I make this soya pulao and my kids and their friends like eating the little soya nuggets. I always have a pack of soya in my pantry and if I don't have anything to add to the pulao, I make this soya pulao instead of a making a plain jeera pulao. Check out the other pulao recipes.

One of the things I notice is that, the pulao is never spicy, so to make it spicy add lots of green chillies or add some garam masala to spice it up. And as always with all my pulao recipes, I add some coconut milk which lifts it to a whole new level.

Peas Pulao

I make a pulao every week for lunch box and every time I try to make a different pulao but the most favorite of all my pulao recipes is always the humble peas pulao. I have already posted another recipe of peas pulao that my mother makes in an electric cooker.

Peas Pulao

This is my version, that I make in a pressure cooker with some garam masala (optional) and coconut milk. Most people don't add coconut milk to pulao but I tell you once you add coconut milk, you will never make pulao without it! Coconut milk makes the pulao so flavorful and delicious that we find a pulao without coconut milk a tad bland!!

Jeera Pulao

Jeera pulao is one of the easiest, flavorful rice dishes to make. We love pulao in my family and I make a lot of different variety of pulao but when I don't have anything to add to the pulao, I simply make this tasty pulao! It works well with a nice side dish. I always add coconut milk to all my pulao, although not needed, the coconut milk makes the pulao more yum.

Broccoli Pulao

Every time I see broccoli in the supermarket, I always remember the TV shows where they portray the broccoli as a distasteful horrible vegetable, and I somehow never picked it up! One day my anni bought this veggie for her daughters and I tasted it for the first time and ever since I have fallen in love with it! Now I don't understand why people don't like this veggie!!

Broccoli Pulao

Broccoli is green in color with a flower head and looks like a cauliflower. Always choose a broccoli that is completely green in color. Broccoli has a lot of health benefits and it's very good to include in our diet. It has high fiber content, with high levels of calcium, protein and anti oxidants.

I sometimes include broccoli in salads, noodles and make stir fry with it. This time, I wanted to try a pulao with it and it came out really well. We had it with palak paneer.

Capsicum Pulao

We love eating pulao at home and I always choose to make a pulao over biryanis. When we went shopping for veggies, my son was very much interested in these colorful capsicums so I decided to buy them to make this delicious pulao.
This tastes really good and we had it with paneer and baby corn kurma.

Brown Rice Pulao

My husband has found a sudden liking towards brown rice so he bought a packet and asked me to cook with it. I went onto the internet and looked at many blogs to see how to cook brown rice and followed the instructions but it never worked as the water they mentioned and the time taken did not work for me! Then I started making brown rice curd rice and brown rice pongal and brown rice bisibellabath where the amount of water added need not be perfect.

Brown Rice Pulao

And then I decided to follow the instructions given in the packet and it worked beautifully! It is very important to soak the brown rice for atleast 1 hour and then use the amount of water mentioned on the packet. For the brand of brown rice I had, it required only 2.5 cups of water! My brown rice pulao came out perfect!

Kuthiraivali Vegetable Pulao | Barnyard Millet Vegetable Pulao

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, thinnai pongal, my husband wants us to include more millets in our diet. And I think if we start including millets when our kids are small, they will get more used to it than when they are older and their taste buds are accustomed to rice.

So this time I tried kuthiraivali pulao and I should say it tasted really good! I loved the flavor of this pulao. The only thing is, it can get a little dry if you eat it after sometime so I would suggest have a nice side dish and it tastes awesome! Even my kids ate some and I was happy about that. My husband wants me to pack his lunch boxes with millets so I will be making a lot more dishes with these!

Mushroom Pulao

Mushrooms are one of my most favorites! And the best part is, my husband also loves mushrooms, unlike paneer. He hates paneer so I can't make a lot of paneer dishes but since we both love mushrooms, I make plenty of mushroom dishes. Our most favorite mushroom recipe, is mushroom biryani. I make this biryani very often and we enjoy it a lot. This time around I decided to try mushroom pulao and this was another hit!

Mushroom Pulao

Pulao is always very delicious and a favorite among kids too but you need to have a nice, spicy side dish to make it even more delicious.

Beet Root Pulao

I have been looking high and low for new and different versions of lunch box recipes. I need to pack lunch for my daughter and she is extremely finicky with food. I already make beetroot rice for her so I figured this beetroot pulao will work and so it did!

Peas Pulao is another favorite lunch box recipe in our house and I'm glad this dish was welcomed too! This is very easy to make, one pot meal and perfect for lunch boxes.

Peas Pulao / Matar Pulao / Pattani Sadam Recipe

Peas Pulao is one of the easiest to make, takes very little time to make and also one of the most delicious and flavorful and most sought after in rice variety, a great lunch box recipe too and also a party favorite. We make this very often in our home and no one complains! This goes well with any non veg or veg gravy or even with plain raita
Today we had it with Paneer Butter Masala.

The taste of this pulao can be enriched by adding coconut milk or even plain milk. If you don't prefer milk, you can add water. Use fresh peas, if not frozen peas. This can also be made as a one pot meal.
If you want to make this in a pressure cooker, check out this pressure cooker peas pulao.
