No Fondant Unicorn Cake | Unicorn Cake | Whipped Cream Unicorn Cake |
Birthday Cake for Girls - In this recipe, we will see how to make a
pretty unicorn cake without any fondant. This cake is a favorite among
little girls and I'm sure they'll love it! I made this cake for my daughter's birthday.
Ingredients
- Unsalted butter - 125 gms
- Sugar - 100 gms
- Eggs - 2
- Curd - 2 tbsp
- Vanilla - 1 tsp
- Maida - 100 gms
- Baking powder - 1 tsp
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Chocolate chips - 3 tbsp (optional)
To make the unicorn cake
- Melted chocolate - 50 gms
- Bread slice - 2
- Tooth picks - 2
- Ice cream cone - 1
- Gold glitter dust - 1/2 tsp
For the frosting
- Whipping cream - 1.5 cups
- Vanilla - 1 tsp
- Icing sugar - 2 tbsp
- Gel colors - blue, green, yellow, pink

Grease and line two 6 inches cake tin and pre heat the oven to 180 degrees C for 20 mins.
1. Beat the butter and sugar for 2 -3 minutes. Scrape the bowl in between and beat well.
2. Add the eggs one at a time and beat for another 2 minutes till it's pale.
3. Then add the curd and vanilla and beat it in.
4. Place a sieve over the bowl and add the maida, baking powder and salt. Sieve it in.
5. Gently mix the wet and the dry ingredients, do not overmix the batter.
6. Transfer the batter into the cake tin, add the chocolate chips on top and tap the tins on the counter to remove the air bubbles and bake in the pre heated oven for 20-25 mins.
7. Put a skewer in the center of the cake, if it comes out clean then it's done otherwise bake for a little longer.
8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 20 mins and then remove from the pan and let it cool completely.
Let's make the unicorn cake
1. Melt the dark chocolate to make the eyes of the unicorn.
2. If you're confident, you can pipe the eyes with the chocolate directly on the cake, if not, draw the eyes on a butter pan, turn it over and pipe the chocolate over the shadow of the drawing.
3. Make sure you pipe it thick so that it wont break while removing. Leave this in the freezer.
Other themed cakes
For the ears
1. To make the ears of the unicorn, take bread slices and cut off the edges.
2. Cut the bread slices to the shape of ears.
3. Put tooth picks in the bottom of the ears and frost it with the frosting and leave it in the freezer to set firm.
To make the horn
1. To make the horn of the unicorn, take the ice cream cone and cut it to fit you cake perfectly.
2. Apply the gold glitter dust on the horn and place it on one side of the cake representing the horn of the unicorn.
To frost the cake
1. Take the chilled whipping cream, add the vanilla and sugar and beat the cream till stiff peaks are formed.
2. Leave it in the fridge till we need it.
3. Place the first layer of cake on the cake board and soak the layer with sugar syrup of with milk sugar syrup (milk+sugar)
4. Place a dollop of whipped cream and spread evenly.
5. Sprinkle some chocolate chips over the whipped cream.
6. Place the next layer of cake and soak this layer too.
7. Frost the entire cake with the whipped cream. Leave the cake in the fridge.
8. Take the remaining whipped cream and divide equally into 4 bowls and add colors of your choice. I used blue, green, yellow and pink. Mix it with a spoon. Put it in piping bags with a star nozzle. Leave it in the fridge.
9. Then start piping designs around the cake with the different colored cream to represent the mane of the unicorn.
10. Finally bring the eyes and ears from the freezer and place it gently on the cake.
That's it a beautiful unicorn cake without any fondant is done.

Notes
1. Make sure the curd is not sour or runny.
2. Instead of curd you can add milk.
3. Make sure all the ingredients are at room temperature.
4. If you have extra cake, then you can use the cake to make the ears of the unicorn.
