Chow chow poriyal is another easy and simple dish that you can make as a side dish for rice. You can make a simple poriyal like this or you can add some dal and make a kootu, both tastes really good.
CHOW CHOW PORIYAL
Preparation time 10 mins | Cooking time 15 mins | Serves 2
Ingredients
Method
1. Wash, peel and chop the chow chow into small bite sized pieces.
2. In a pan, heat the oil. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ural dal and curry leaves.
3. Add the chopped onion, slit green chillies and salt. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
4. Add the turmeric powder, sambar powder, red chilli powder and mix well. Cook for 2 minutes.
5. Add the chow chow and mix well with the masala.
6. Add 1/4 cup of water, cover and cook for about 5-7 minutes. If needed sprinkle more water.
7. Once it's cooked, check for salt and switch off.
Notes
1. Do not add too much water while cooking the chow chow. The veggie will itself leave out some water.
2. You can skip out all the masala and simple make the poriyal with the spiciness of the green chilli. In that case add more chillies.
