Tomato Chutney | Onion Tomato Chutney

Tomato chutney is a easy and simple chutney recipe that is very common in South India. This is made as a side dish for idli, dosa, uthapam or even paniyaram.


Tomato Chutney


TOMATO CHUTNEY
Preparation time 10 mins | Cooking time 10 mins | Serves 2

Ingredients
  • Onion - 1, chopped
  • Tomato - 2, chopped
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp chopped
  • Water - 2 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
To Temper
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
  • Hing - a pinch
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig

Method
1. In a kadai, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds, urad dal, hing and curry leaves.

2. When the mustard seeds splutter, add the chopped onions, green chilli and some salt.
3. Saute till the onions are translucent. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell leaves.

4. Add the tomatoes. Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and required salt and mix well.
5. Add 2 tbsp of water and mix well. Cook in medium flame until the tomatoes are cooked very well. 

6. Add the chopped coriander leaves and switch off.


Tomato Chutney

Notes
1. Cook the tomatoes till it is completely mushy.
2. Add more red chilli powder if you prefer your chutney to be very spicy.
