Cabbage is a healthy leafy vegetable rich in Vitamin K and Vitamin C. It is also rich in anti oxidants. It improves brain function, vision, bone health, fights against alzheimer's and cancers, regulates blood pressure, reduces muscle aches, detoxifies the body among many other benefits.
It is good to include cabbage in our diet. It can be eaten raw, added to salads or it can be cooked lightly like this poriyal I add cabbage to our diet in many different ways, check out the cabbage recipes to know more.
This poriyal is easy and simple to make and goes well with South Indian thali.
CABBAGE PORIYAL
Preparation time 10 mins | Cooking time 10 mins | Serves 2-3
Ingredients
Method
1. In a kadai, heat the oil. Add the mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, green chillies and ginger.
2. When the mustard seeds splutter, add the chopped onion and salt.
3. When the onions turn translucent, add the chopped cabbage and mix well.
4. Stir often and cook for 5-8 minutes until done. Do not add water, if needed sprinkle little water.
5. Once done, switch off.
Notes
1. You can add some turmeric powder, I don't like to change the colour of the cabbage so I usually don't add any masala.
2. I don't add water while cooking the cabbage, if needed sprinkle little water. Do not make the cabbage soggy.
